Plywood Dog House – Wooden Dog Houses

The demand is high for a well constructed dog house.  Many dog lovers want a dog house which resembles their own home.  That’s where a plywood dog house is handy.

Plywood dog houses can be customized to resemble almost any residence.  There are several different types of wooden houses.  There is a single design unit for housing only one dog.  Then there is the multi-room unit designed for several dogs. 

Cedar is the best wood for a dog house. Not only is cedar long lasting but it helps to deter the reproduction of fleas. Cedar is both weather and insect resistant but can be quite expensive.  Untreated woods like Douglas fir and pine will not last very long.  These woods are prone to rot and are prone to insect infestation.

Pressure-treated wood is resistant to rot and insects due to the preservation techniques applied to the wood.  But pressure-treated wood also needs to be coated with a protectant or it may crack or split.

Plywood is available as medium density fiber boards.  Medium density fiber boards are strong and stable but also extremely heavy.  Particle board is lighter in weight and not as strong.  Plywood needs to be painted or stain to protect the wood from the weather.  It is neither weather nor insect resistant.  Only use the pressure-treated plywood for the exterior of the dog house. 

Cedar and plywood are both strong and durable making them acceptable materials for building dog houses. With a little research, selecting the right type of wood for your dog house can save you lots of money and best of all, your pooch will thank you for your purchase.
