How Much Are Dog Houses – Are They Expensive?

There are many different designs and styles available for dog house.  So exactly how much are dog houses?  They vary in price ranging from $30 for an inexpensive economy size to well over $1500 for a luxurious dog house.

For most normal people, this means anyone who’s not a politician or celebrity; we want the best bang for our buck.  So let’s review some normal price dog houses. 

Economy dog houses usually run under $100. Economy houses can be made from molded plastic or wood.  Sierra makes an economy dog house that’s 38 inches wide by 22 inches deep and 27 inches high about $90. 

A collapsible dog house for small dogs is available from DogBag sells for about  $40.  The collapsible dog house is a portable dog house for smaller dogs.  It’s made of heavy-duty, waterproof fabric which is easy to fold, store and clean.

Medium price houses sell for around $100 to $500.  These dog houses are typically designed for larger dogs and made of molded plastic or wood.  For example the Bungalow sells for $105.  This straightforward design is insulated, light weight, and made for small to medium size dogs.

Cedar is the best wood for a dog house.  Not only is cedar long lasting but it helps to deter the reproduction of fleas.  Cedar is both weather and insect resistant but can be quite expensive.  Untreated woods like Douglas fir and pine will not last very long.  These woods are prone to rot and they are not insect resistant.

Other dog houses are made out of molded plastic.  Molded plastic is strong and durable and will outlast just about any wooden dog house. Luxury dog houses start around $500 and only go up from there.  Some of these include air conditioners, heaters and de-humidifiers for their pampered pooches.
